The Importance of Ventilation 

Air Quality  
Cooking activities release a plethora of pollutants into the air, including smoke, grease particles, and various gases. Without adequate ventilation, these contaminants can linger in the kitchen, compromising indoor air quality and potentially leading to health issues. Proper ventilation helps to remove these pollutants, ensuring a healthier environment for cooking and living. 

Moisture Control  
Cooking generates steam and moisture, which, if not properly managed, can lead to mould and mildew growth, as well as damage to cabinetry and other kitchen surfaces. Ventilation systems help to expel excess moisture, preventing these issues and maintaining the structural integrity of the kitchen. 

Temperature Regulation

Choose the Right Ventilation System 
When designing a kitchen, selecting the appropriate ventilation system is paramount. Options range from overhead range hoods to downdraft systems, each with its own set of benefits and considerations. Factors such as kitchen layout, cooking habits, and budget should inform your choice of ventilation system.

Size Matters 
Ensure that the ventilation system you select is appropriately sized for your kitchen space and cooking appliances. An undersized range hood or exhaust fan may not effectively capture and remove cooking pollutants, while an oversized system could lead to excessive noise and energy consumption. 

Positioning and Placement 
Strategically position ventilation outlets, such as range hoods or exhaust fans, to maximise their effectiveness. For range hoods, install them directly above cooking surfaces to capture airborne contaminants at the source. Additionally, consider placing exhaust fans near moisture-generating appliances, such as dishwashers and sinks, to mitigate moisture buildup. 

Supplemental Ventilation 
In addition to mechanical ventilation systems, consider incorporating natural ventilation strategies, such as windows and skylights, into your kitchen design. These elements can help improve airflow and provide additional ventilation during mild weather conditions.
