With two decades of design experience, Julia Eissing has become a trusted name among those seeking a kitchen designer in Dubai who delivers both style and substance. From high-rise penthouses in Downtown Dubai to family homes in Abu Dhabi, her work reflects a balance between functional flow and timeless elegance. In this Q&A, Julia shares her inspirations, design process, and advice for creating a truly bespoke kitchen.
Julia: I’m self-taught, learning through hands-on experience and my time at Hulsta. Over the years, I’ve worked on a diverse range of projects, which has helped me adapt to different styles, spaces, and client visions.
Julia: It depends on the client, but I’d say most of my kitchens are timeless and elegant. I like spaces that feel calm, functional, and built to last – designs that will still look and feel right years down the line.
Julia: Porcelain is a favourite for worktops – it’s incredibly durable, heat- and stain-resistant, and available in stunning finishes that can mimic natural stone. For colours, I’m drawn to warm neutrals, muted greens, and soft woods that create a welcoming atmosphere. You can explore more of the materials and colours I work with on our dedicated page.
Julia: Travel is a huge influence. I’m inspired by the clean minimalism of Scandinavian design, the texture of Mediterranean homes, and the layered warmth of rural French kitchens. Seeing how different cultures approach design always sparks new ideas.
Julia: Hidden functionality is a big one, clever storage and seamless solutions that keep everything organised without disrupting the flow or beauty of the space.
Julia: I spend time really understanding how clients live. Do they cook daily? Do they entertain? What kind of storage do they need? Once I have those answers, I can design a kitchen that feels tailored to them in every way.
Julia: I enjoy working with all clients, but I especially like collaborating with those who are detail-oriented and have a clear vision. It pushes me to find creative solutions to bring that vision to life.
Julia: Focusing on appearance without considering functionality. Layout, storage, and flow are just as important as finishes when it comes to creating a successful kitchen.
Julia: Focus on your lifestyle first – how you use the space daily – before worrying about trends or resale value. A kitchen designed for your needs will be more enjoyable and still add value to your home.
Julia: One of my favourites was a family kitchen for six. We incorporated a spacious island, walk-in pantry, and rich walnut accents for warmth and sophistication. You can view more in my project portfolio.
